Brown Bread 2018

Mary Conway of Sligo Federation was the overall winner last year, her winning bread is now on sale in ALDI stores nationwide.  This year it could be yours!

The ICA is delighted to announce the return of the National Brown Bread Baking Competition 2018, Sponsored by ALDI and in Association with the National Ploughing Association.

This year there will be two strands to the competition.  ALDI will be orgainising a competition open to the public, the ICA competition is for ICA members only.  Members can enter either the ICA competition or the ALDI competition but not both.  Entry to the competition is free to all.

 

Please note ALDI will announce details of their strand of the competition seperatly, these details will be on the ALDI website.

FORMAT OF THE COMPETITION:

The first stage of the ICA Competition will be at Federation level where you submit a pre-baked brown bread for judging.

ICA Federations will hold a Federation Heat for all Guilds before 30th April 2018.  All 27 Federation Heat winners will compete in the Regional Final which will be held in An Grianán on Tuesday 31st July 2018.  Where they will once again submit a pre-baked brown bread for judging.

 The 5 winners of the Regional Final will go through to the Semi-Finals where they will bake their bread live at the National Ploughing Championships in Offaly in September, here they will be joined by the 3 finalists from the ALDI strand of the competition. 

There will be 2 Semi-Finals on Tuesday 18th and Wednesday 19th September 2018.

The 4 contestants placed first and second in each Semi-Final will qualify for the Final on Thursday 20th September in the ALDI Tent at the National Ploughing Championships 2018.
