National Brown Bread Competition 2018
The regional competition was held yesterday in An Grianan and everyone had a great day there. The contestants and their supporters came from all over the country. There was a great buzz about the place and An Grianan did not fail to give a good account of itself with a lovely lunch served.
Congratulations to the 5 ICA ladies who were chosen to go forward to the finals of the competition and congratulations also to the 3 ALDI winners who attended An Grianan too. The atmosphere was electric with anticipation of the results and to a great cheer in the Kellogg hall, the following were announced as the 8 finalists:
ICA Winners
Kathleen Dillion Byrne, Carlow Federation
Mary Kennedy, Clare Federation
Vivienne Rigley, Laois Federation
Liz Brady, Longford Federation
Mary O’Neill, Wicklow Federation
ALDI Winners
Samara Ward – Co. Donegal
Blaithin Herbert – Co. Limerick
Emma Ferguson., Co. Meath
The semi-finals of the competition will be held at the National Ploughing Championships in Screggan, Tullamore, Co. Offaly on September 18th and 19th and the Grand Final will be held on Thursday Sept. 20th.
Liz Brady, Mary Kennedy, Mary O’Neill and Samara Ward will bake on Tuesday Sept. 18th
Kathleen Dillon Byrne, Emma Ferguson, Blaithin Herbert and Vivienne Rigley will bake on Wednesday Sept. 19th.
2 ladies from each day will go forward to the Grand Final on Thursday Sept. 20th.
