ICA’s response to State Pension Proposals

For immediate release – Tuesday 23 January 2018

ICA, Ireland’s largest women’s organisation, has responded to the pension reforms outlined this afternoon by Minister for Employment Affairs and Social Protection Regina Doherty TD.

Anne Devitt, P.R.O. with ICA, said:

“We’re disappointed that the Government has decided not to reverse the 2012 State Pension cuts.”

“Whilst some pensioners receiving reduced pensions because of the anomaly introduced in 2012 may benefit from Minister Doherty’s new Total Contribution Approach (TCA), many more pensioners will not.”

“We are also disappointed that the onus will be on pensioners to opt-in to a scheme.  The onus should be on the Minister’s Department to ensure that all pensioners automatically receive the best entitlement."

“We will be consulting with our members in the coming days to decide the next steps of our campaign.”
