Irish Countrywomen’s Association Statement on Gaza

5th April 2025

The Irish Countrywomen’s Association, an organisation for women, with over 6000 members throughout the Republic of Ireland, ask for an urgent peace settlement to alleviate the suffering of families in war-torn countries, and particularly for the women and children in Gaza.

We cannot stand by and not abhor the humanitarian crisis and pending famine in Gaza. Mothers and children have been made homeless, displaced, starved and killed.

We appreciate the complexity of the situation and if an immediate pause cannot be achieved, we believe only a total end to the war is merited and negotiations for peace commenced. This will help protect innocent women and children from further terror and trauma.

Unnecessary suffering is being endured and we as women in Ireland say it must stop now. This is not a political stance by the ICA which is a non- political organisation. It is a humanitarian imperative. It is women speaking for women.

The ICA abhors all wars, as what is true is that women and girls are impacted differently and disproportionally, suffering from sexual abuse, rape and enduring childbirth in awful situations.
